MPW (Membrane Products Kiryat Weizmann) was founded in the late 1970s in Israel as a membrane development branch of a large European chemical manufacturer focused on developing nanofiltration membranes that would treat industrial dyes to improve their quality and shelf life. In the mid-90s, nearing the end of the contract with the European company, MPW developed a line of nanofiltration membranes with excellent compatibility to acids and caustic at high temperature in the flat sheet, spiral wound and tubular configurations, as well as nanofiltration solvent stable membranes. MPW’s technology was acquired by Koch Membrane Systems in 1996.
